Vauxhall Scrappage Scheme
Currently there is no official Vauxhall scrappage scheme active. The previous scrappage scheme ended on 02/04/20 and has not been restarted. Vauxhall drivers looking to scrap their cars are recommended to compare prices to maximise the payout from scrapping their vehicle.
What is the Vauxhall scrappage scheme?
The Vauxhall scrappage scheme was slightly different compared to most other schemes on the market, given that Vauxhall didn’t specify an amount that could be saved upfront and instead the savings were dependent on the model that you were trading in. However, when purchasing a new Crossland X or Grandland X you could have saved an additional £4,000 on top of the value of your car. The money from your old car would then be used as the deposit on a brand new Vauxhall, which had to be purchased on a finance basis at 4.9% APR.
Is the Vauxhall scrappage scheme coming back?
There has been no suggestion that Vauxhall’s scrappage scheme will be returning in the near future, and we shall update this page accordingly should further news be released.
How did the scrappage scheme work?
Unlike most scrappage schemes, Vauxhall’s featured very little in the way of restrictions, only requiring you to have owned the car for 90 days before being able to trade in as part of the deal. If the vehicle you were trading was over seven years old then it would be scrapped, and anything younger would simply qualify for a ‘Trade-Up’ discount. Again in contrast to other schemes, savings were not based on the model you were buying, but instead based on the overall value of the car you were trading in – which is much more in line with a traditional scrapping service. There was, however, a minimum value offered of £4,000 for scrappage and £3,000 for a trade-up.
Petrol Cars:
There was no restriction on the fuel type that could be traded or purchased.
Diesel Cars:
There was no restriction on the fuel type that could be traded or purchased.
Electric Cars:
The Vauxhall scheme was rare in that there was a potential for electric or hybrid cars to be traded through this scheme, although it was unlikely that any would have been scrapped due to the seven-year cut off.
Do I qualify for a Scrappage Scheme Offer?
If you missed out on the Vauxhall ‘Trade-Up’ scheme, then you still have a couple of opportunities to make the most of scrappage schemes, with a handful still in operation around the country, based on the consumer’s location. These schemes are outlined below:
- London – available to London residents with a vehicle that is not ULEZ compliant
- Birmingham – available to those who work 18 hours a week or more within the Birmingham CAZ, who earn £30,000 a year or less and have owned a non-compliant vehicle since 10 September 2018
- Scotland – Available to owners of non-compliant vehicles who live within a 20km radius of a Scottish Low Emission Zone
