SsangYong Scrappage Scheme
Currently there is no official SsangYong scrappage scheme active. SsangYong drivers looking to scrap their cars or vans are recommended to compare prices to maximise the payout from scrapping their vehicle
What is the SsangYong scrappage scheme?
SsangYong has never offered a standalone scrappage scheme like other car manufacturers, although it did support the government-backed scheme in 2009.
Is the SsangYong scrappage scheme coming back?
As SsangYong has never provided its own scrappage scheme in the past, it remains unlikely that there will be a new one in future.
How did the scrappage scheme work?
The 2009 Scrappage Scheme was set up by the Government to help the motoring industry recover following the economic crisis of 2008. Anyone who owned a car built before 31st July 1999, later extended to 29th February 2000, could receive a £2,000 discount on buying a new car, with £1,000 coming from the government and a further £1,000 coming from the manufacturer you were buying the car from.
Despite being a relatively new brand at the time, 80 SsangYongs were scrapped through this scheme.
Petrol Cars:
There was no restriction on the fuel type that could be traded, and the discount was available on petrol and diesel cars alike.
Diesel Cars:
There was no restriction on the fuel type that could be traded, and the discount was available on petrol and diesel cars alike.
Electric Cars:
SsangYong is yet to provide an electric vehicle, and the 2009 scheme was before electric vehicles were commonly seen in car showrooms across the country.
Do I qualify for a Scrappage Scheme Offer?
Just because SsangYong has never provided a scrappage scheme, doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to cash in on one at all. There are three that are currently based on location, due to upcoming or expanding Clean Air Schemes, and their criteria is listed below.
- London – available to London residents with a vehicle that is not ULEZ compliant
- Birmingham – available to those who work 18 hours a week or more within the Birmingham CAZ, who earn £30,000 a year or less and have owned a non-compliant vehicle since 10 September 2018
- Scotland – Available to owners of non-compliant vehicles who live within a 20km radius of a Scottish Low Emission Zone
