SEAT Scrappage Scheme
Currently there is no official SEAT scrappage scheme active. The previous scrappage scheme ended on 31/12/17 and has not been restarted. SEAT drivers looking to scrap their cars or vans are recommended to compare prices to maximise the payout from scrapping their vehicle.
What is the SEAT scrappage scheme?
SEAT’s scrappage scheme ran until the end of 2017 and was specifically aimed at simultaneously boosting SEAT’s sales figures whilst removing the highest polluting diesel-powered cars from the road in the wake of the Volkswagen Emissions Scandal – of which SEAT were intrinsically linked due to being a part of the Volkswagen Group.
Is the SEAT scrappage scheme coming back?
There are currently no suggestions that a scrappage scheme for SEAT is on the horizon.
How did the scrappage scheme work?
The SEAT scheme of 2017 was available to anyone buying a new SEAT who owned a diesel-powered vehicle that was built to Euro 4 emissions standards or earlier. As long as the person utilising the deal had owned the car for at least six months prior, then they could have saved up to £3,500 depending on the model of SEAT they were purchasing.
Petrol Cars:
The 2017 scrappage scheme was only open to diesel powered cars, meaning no petrol cars could be traded in under the scheme.Â
Diesel Cars:
The scheme was intended purely to remove the highest-polluting diesels following the infamous Emissions Scandal of 2014. Any diesel built to Euro 4 standards or earlier could be traded in.Â
Electric Cars:
SEAT did not provide any electrification on its models until 2020 – and even then it was only on the Leon and as a plug-in hybrid. As such, there were no electric options in the 2017 scheme.
Do I qualify for a Scrappage Scheme Offer?
If you missed out on the SEAT Scrappage Scheme then that doesn’t mean you are unable to make use of any schemes at all. Currently, three location-based scrappage schemes are in place, with their own specific criteria, which you may be able to make use of.
- London – available to London residents with a vehicle that is not ULEZ compliant
- Birmingham – available to those who work 18 hours a week or more within the Birmingham CAZ, who earn £30,000 a year or less and have owned a non-compliant vehicle since 10 September 2018
- Scotland – Available to owners of non-compliant vehicles who live within a 20km radius of a Scottish Low Emission Zone
