Renault Scrappage Scheme
Renault has just finished offering its new “New for Old” scheme, offering drivers the chance to trade in their old vehicle for cash towards a new one.
What is the Renault scrappage scheme?
The latest Renault scrappage scheme, known as the ‘New for Old’ scheme, can see customers save up to £3,500 on the purchase of a new car. However, these savings are dependent on the car that you are purchasing. For example, a new Clio will offer a discount of up to £2,000, whereas £3,500 is reserved for the Captur e-tech plug-in hybrid model. There are offers available for the following models: Clio, Captur, Arkana and Megane. There is also an allowance for new Renault vans including the Trafic, Master, Kangoo and Zoe van models.
Is the Renault scrappage scheme coming back?
Renault’s scheme ceased on the 3rd of April 2023, for new car orders, with anybody who ordered before that date needing to have their car registered and financed by the 30th of June 2023.
How does the scrappage scheme work?
In order to qualify for the New for Old discount, you must have owned your current car for at least 90 days and are only able to make a cash purchase for your new Renault – any other national promotions run by Renault are also void in this case.
Petrol Cars:
It was possible to trade in any car of any type, be it petrol, diesel or electric, in this scheme, as it was only age that was the limiting factor on eligibility.
Diesel Cars:
It was possible to trade in any car of any type, be it petrol, diesel or electric, in this scheme, as it was only age that was the limiting factor on eligibility.
Electric Cars:

Commercial Vehicles:
Renault offered a similar scheme for business users that allowed old vans to be traded in towards the price of a new Renault hauler. Unfortunately, this scheme ended in September 2021.
Do I qualify for a Scrappage Scheme Offer?
If you missed out on the Renault scrappage scheme, then you haven’t totally missed the boat on using a scheme just yet. There are currently three location-based clean air zone schemes of which you could be eligible.
- London – available to London residents with a vehicle that is not ULEZ compliant
- Birmingham – available to those who work 18 hours a week or more within the Birmingham CAZ, who earn £30,000 a year or less and have owned a non-compliant vehicle since 10 September 2018
- Scotland – Available to owners of non-compliant vehicles who live within a 20km radius of a Scottish Low Emission Zone
