Range Rover Scrappage Scheme
Currently there is no official Range Rover scrappage scheme active. Range Rover drivers looking to scrap their cars or vans are recommended to compare prices to maximise the payout from scrapping their vehicle.
What is the Range Rover scrappage scheme?
Range Rover itself has never backed any scrappage schemes, including the 2009 government-funded incentive. However, as a sub-brand of Land Rover, it was possible to put the £2,000 incentive towards a new Range Rover through Land Rover.
Is the Range Rover scrappage scheme coming back?
There has been no suggestion that Range Rover, Land Rover or Jaguar (who all work together through the JLR network) will be implementing any scrappage schemes soon.
How did the scrappage scheme work?
The 2009 Scrappage Scheme was set up by the Government to help the motoring industry recover following the economic crisis of 2008. Anyone who owned a car built before 31st July 1999, later extended to 29th February 2000, could receive a £2,000 discount on buying a new car, with £1,000 coming from the government and a further £1,000 coming from the manufacturer you were buying the car from.Â
Range Rover was one of the few brands not to be involved in this scheme, however, that didn’t stop the owners of over 200 Range Rovers from scrapping their cars as part of the incentive.
Petrol Cars:
There was no restriction on the fuel type that could be traded, as the scheme was solely based on the age of cars being scrapped.
Diesel Cars:
There was no restriction on the fuel type that could be traded, as the scheme was solely based on the age of cars being scrapped.
Electric Cars:
Range Rover is yet to produce a fully electric car, and did not even produce a hybrid until 2012, long after the scrappage scheme ended, so there were no electric Range Rovers scrapped, nor bought, through the incentive.
Do I qualify for a Scrappage Scheme Offer?
Just because Range Rover has never offered its own scrappage scheme doesn’t mean that you can’t make the most of one that does exist. Three location-based scrappage schemes are currently in operations, and their eligibility rules and regulations are explained below:
- London – available to London residents with a vehicle that is not ULEZ compliant
- Birmingham – available to those who work 18 hours a week or more within the Birmingham CAZ, who earn £30,000 a year or less and have owned a non-compliant vehicle since 10 September 2018
- Scotland – Available to owners of non-compliant vehicles who live within a 20km radius of a Scottish Low Emission Zone
