Peugeot Scrappage Scheme
Currently there is no official Peugeot scrappage scheme active. The previous scrappage scheme ended on 31/03/18 and has not been restarted. Peugeot drivers looking to scrap their cars or vans are recommended to compare prices to maximise the payout from scrapping their vehicle.
What is the Peugeot scrappage scheme?
The Peugeot scrappage scheme was active until the end of March 2018, and was launched as both a response to the diesel emissions scandal and as a push to try and bolster sales of new vehicles. Any vehicle that was registered before 2011 and had been owned for at least 90 days could be traded in for up to £6,000 worth of savings on cars and £7,000 on vans.
Is the Peugeot scrappage scheme coming back?
There has been no suggestion that Peugeot’s scrappage will be making a return, as with many other schemes that took place around that time. Should there be any changes to this stance, then this page will be updated accordingly. Of course, you could still trade in your old car and put the money towards your new Peugeot regardless of any special offers or incentives. However, a part-exchange deal may not guarantee you the best price for your old car, unless you’ve already done some research into your car’s second hand value first.
How did the scrappage scheme work?
Peugeot’s scrappage scheme, like most schemes, was effectively a trade-in special offer, where a customer would swap their old car for a brand new Peugeot, and enjoy a discount on their new car as a result. The only rules Peugeot laid down in terms of eligibility were that the car being traded needed to be registered on or before the 31st December 2010 and must have been in the possession of the current owner (who also had to be the person making the transaction) for at least 90 days.
Peugeot was one of the more generous manufacturers during these schemes, offering discounts of up to £6,000 on a new 508, or if you were after a commercial vehicle, up to £7,000 on a brand new Boxer van.
Petrol Cars:
There was no restriction on the fuel type for cars being scrapped or purchased as part of the Peugeot Scrappage scheme.
Diesel Cars:
There was no restriction on the fuel type for cars being scrapped or purchased as part of the Peugeot Scrappage scheme.
Electric Cars:
While there was no restriction on the fuel type for cars being scrapped or purchased as part of the Peugeot Scrappage scheme, it was unlikely that you would have an electric vehicle old enough to be eligible. There were no options to purchase an electric vehicle through the scheme.
Commercial Vehicles:
Peugeot’s scrappage scheme was open to both cars and vans alike. The same restrictions applied to commercial vehicles being traded in, and customers could save up to £5,000 on a Partner Van and £7,000 on a Boxer Van.
Do I qualify for a Scrappage Scheme Offer?
Just because you missed out on the Peugeot Scrappage Scheme doesn’t mean that you have to miss out on all scrappage schemes. You could still be eligible for one of the location-based schemes that are currently in place as a result of the growing number of Clean Air Schemes up and down the country.
The scrappage schemes currently in operation, and the eligibility rules around them, are as follows:
- London – available to London residents with a vehicle that is not ULEZ compliant
- Birmingham – available to those who work 18 hours a week or more within the Birmingham CAZ, who earn £30,000 a year or less and have owned a non-compliant vehicle since 10 September 2018
- Scotland – Available to owners of non-compliant vehicles who live within a 20km radius of a Scottish Low Emission Zone
