Nissan Scrappage Scheme
Currently there is no official Nissan scrappage scheme active. The previous scrappage scheme ended on 31/12/20 and has not been restarted. Nissan drivers looking to scrap their cars or vans are recommended to compare prices to maximise the payout from scrapping their vehicle.
What is the Nissan scrappage scheme?
The Nissan scrappage scheme, marketed as the Nissan ‘Switch Up’ Scheme, was a special offer provided by Nissan in the final quarter of 2020 in an attempt to boost new car sales. Any vehicle that was registered by the end of 2013 were eligible for the scheme in return for savings of up to £6,000 on a brand new Nissan.
Is the Nissan scrappage scheme coming back?
There has been no suggestion that the Nissan Switch Scheme will be making a return, but if this or any scrappage-based scheme is launched, we will update this page accordingly. You may still be able to trade in your old car and put the money towards your new Nissan, but this will be nothing more than a part-exchange and you won’t be able to guarantee that you’re getting a fair deal without doing some research of your car’s second hand value first.
How did the scrappage scheme work?
The Nissan Switch Scheme worked on a trade-in basis, where a customer would bring their old car to Nissan, who would then take it in return for a discount when purchasing a brand new Nissan. The only restrictions in terms of eligibility were that the car being traded needed to be registered on or before the 31st December 2013 and must have been in the possession of the current owner (who also had to be the person making the transaction) for at least 90 days. Discounts offered started at savings of up to £2,000 on a new LEAF, rising up through the Nissan range to a maximum of £6,000 for a new Qashqai.
Petrol Cars:
There was no restriction on the fuel type for cars being scrapped or purchased as part of the Nissan Switch scheme.
Diesel Cars:
There was no restriction on the fuel type for cars being scrapped or purchased as part of the Nissan Switch scheme.
Electric Cars:
There was no restriction on the fuel type for cars being scrapped or purchased as part of the Nissan Switch scheme.
Do I qualify for a Scrappage Scheme Offer?
If you missed out on the Nissan Switch Scheme, you could still be eligible for a scrappage scheme depending on where you live or work, what you drive and how much you earn annually. These schemes are in operation in relation to new and upcoming Clean Air Schemes across the country.
Currently the only scrappage schemes in operation, and the eligibility rules around them, are as follows:
- London – available to London residents with a vehicle that is not ULEZ compliant
- Birmingham – available to those who work 18 hours a week or more within the Birmingham’s Clean Air Zone, who earn £30,000 a year or less and have owned a non-compliant vehicle since 10 September 2018
- Scotland – Available to owners of non-compliant vehicles who live within a 20km radius of a Scottish Low Emission Zone.
