Kia Scrappage Scheme
Currently there is no official Kia scrappage scheme active. The previous scrappage scheme ended on 30/06/21 and has not been restarted. Kia drivers looking to scrap their cars or vans are recommended to compare prices to maximise the payout from scrapping their vehicle.
What is the Kia scrappage scheme?
Kia’s scrappage scheme was one of the more recent schemes to be run, with it being closed in June of 2021. It was open for people who owned cars that had been registered prior to 30th June 2014 for at least three months, and in return for trading in their old car they would receive between £2,000 and £3,000.
Is the Kia scrappage scheme coming back?
As a recent scheme, it could work either way as to whether a scheme is more likely to come back or not. There has been no word as of yet on any scheme coming back.
How did the scrappage scheme work?
The Kia scrappage scheme offered savings on three models across its range in return for trading in a car that was at least seven years old (at the time). This meant any car registered before the 30th June 2014 was eligible, providing it had been owned for at least three months by the current keeper, and the saving was then offered on one of three models. These models were the Picanto, the Stonic and the Niro, with savings of up to £2,000, £2,500 and £3,000 respectively.
Petrol Cars:
There was no restriction on the fuel type that could be traded, as the scheme was solely based on the age of cars being scrapped.
Diesel Cars:
There was no restriction on the fuel type that could be traded, as the scheme was solely based on the age of cars being scrapped.
Electric Cars:
It was unlikely that you would be trading in an electric car due to the age restrictions on eligible cars. While there were no electric cars offered as one of the three discount options, the Niro did come with a hybrid powertrain, offering emissions as low as 88g/km.
Do I qualify for a Scrappage Scheme Offer?
If you missed Kia’s scrappage scheme and was hoping to make the most of a scrappage scheme, then all is not lost. Three location-based scrappage schemes are currently in effect, meaning you could still enjoy savings thanks to official schemes.
- London – available to London residents with a vehicle that is not ULEZ compliant
- Birmingham – available to those who work 18 hours a week or more within the Birmingham’s Clean Air Zone, who earn £30,000 a year or less and have owned a non-compliant vehicle since 10 September 2018
- Scotland – Available to owners of non-compliant vehicles who live within a 20km radius of a Scottish Low Emission Zone.
