Jaguar Scrappage Scheme
Currently there is no official Jaguar scrappage scheme active. Jaguar drivers looking to scrap their cars or vans are recommended to compare prices to maximise the payout from scrapping their vehicle.
What is the Jaguar scrappage scheme?
Jaguar is a rarity when it comes to modern car manufacturers in that it has never supported any scrappage scheme of any type – not even the government-backed scheme seen in 2009.
Is the Jaguar scrappage scheme coming back?
As Jaguar has never supported a scheme up to this point, it seems unlikely that there will be any form of scrappage scheme in the near future.
How did the scrappage scheme work?
The 2009 Scrappage Scheme was set up by the Government to help the motoring industry recover following the economic crisis of 2008. Anyone who owned a car built before 31st July 1999, later extended to 29th February 2000, could receive a £2,000 discount on buying a new car, with £1,000 coming from the government and a further £1,000 coming from the manufacturer you were buying the car from.Â
Jaguar was one of the few brands not to be involved in this scheme, but this didn’t stop you from scrapping your own Jaguar to trade in for a newer car and 113 Jaguars were scrapped as part of this scheme.
Petrol Cars:
There was no restriction on the fuel type that could be traded, as the scheme was solely based on the age of cars being scrapped.
Diesel Cars:
There was no restriction on the fuel type that could be traded, as the scheme was solely based on the age of cars being scrapped.
Electric Cars:
Jaguar’s first electric car, the I-Pace, was not produced until 2017, a long time after the 2009 scrappage incentive ended, so there were no electric Jaguars scrapped as part of the scheme.
Do I qualify for a Scrappage Scheme Offer?
Just because Jaguar has never offered a scrappage scheme doesn’t mean that you can’t make the most of one that does exist. Three location-based scrappage schemes are currently in operations, and their eligibility rules and regulations are explained below:
- London – available to London residents with a vehicle that is not ULEZ compliant
- Birmingham – available to those who work 18 hours a week or more within Birmingham’s Clean Air Zone, who earn £30,000 a year or less and have owned a non-compliant vehicle since 10 September 2018
- Scotland – Available to owners of non-compliant vehicles who live within a 20km radius of a Scottish Low Emission Zone
