Honda Scrappage Scheme
Currently there is no official Honda scrappage scheme active. Honda drivers looking to scrap their cars or vans are recommended to compare prices to maximise the payout from scrapping their vehicle.
What is the Honda scrappage scheme?
Honda has never had a standalone scrappage scheme like other car manufacturers, although it did support the government-backed scheme in 2009.
Is the Honda scrappage scheme coming back?
As there was no scrappage scheme provided by Honda previously, it remains unlikely that there will be a new one in future.
How did the scrappage scheme work?
The 2009 Scrappage Scheme was set up by the Government to help the motoring industry recover following the economic crisis of 2008. Anyone who owned a car built before 31st July 1999, later extended to 29th February 2000, could receive a £2,000 discount on buying a new car, with £1,000 coming from the government and a further £1,000 coming from the manufacturer you were buying the car from.
Petrol Cars:
There was no restriction on the fuel type that could be traded, and the discount was available on petrol and diesel cars alike.
Diesel Cars:
There was no restriction on the fuel type that could be traded, and the discount was available on petrol and diesel cars alike.
Electric Cars:
While Honda may be known today for the Honda E, at the time of the 2009 scrappage scheme, electric cars were very much in their infancy. As a result, there were very few on the market, and even then they were only hybrids, and none would have been old enough to qualify to be scrapped.
Do I qualify for a Scrappage Scheme Offer?
While Honda may not have provided a scrappage scheme in the past, you could still make the most of one of the other schemes currently in operation around the country. There are three that are currently based on location, due to upcoming or expanding Clean Air Schemes.
- London – available to London residents with a vehicle that is not ULEZ compliant
- Birmingham – available to those who work 18 hours a week or more within Birmingham’s Clean Air Zone, who earn £30,000 a year or less and have owned a non-compliant vehicle since 10 September 2018
- Scotland – Available to owners of non-compliant vehicles who live within a 20km radius of a Scottish Low Emission Zone
