Fiat Scrappage Scheme
Currently there is no official FIAT scrappage scheme active. The previous scrappage scheme ended on 30/10/17 and has not been restarted. FIAT drivers looking to scrap their cars or vans are recommended to compare prices to maximise the payout from scrapping their vehicle.
What is the Fiat scrappage scheme?
FIAT’s scrappage scheme was part of the wider scheme from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, and was available for vehicles built to Euro 4 emission standards or earlier, and registered on or before 31st December 2009. The car must have been owned for at least six months by the customer looking to utilise the deal, and in return they could save up to £3,500 on a brand new FIAT.
Is the Fiat scrappage scheme coming back?
At present there has been no suggestion that the FIAT scrappage scheme will be returning any time soon. The previous scheme was introduced as a result of a combination of dwindling new car sales and the 2014 Emissions Scandal, with motor manufacturers looking to recreate the successes of the government-backed scheme in 2009.
How did the scrappage scheme work?
Customers were able to trade in their old cars in return for a discount on a brand new FIAT as part of the FIAT scrappage scheme. In order to qualify, the car had to have been built to Euro 4 emission standards or earlier and registered before the 31st December 2009, with the customer trading in having to have owned it for at least six months. Once these criteria were met, customers were given savings depending on the model they were ordering, for example, savings of £1,500 were offered for a Tipo, up to a maximum of £3,500 on a 500L.
Petrol Cars:
FIAT’s scrappage scheme was open to vehicles of any fuel type, providing they were built to Euro 4 emissions standards and before the end of 2009.
Diesel Cars:
FIAT’s scrappage scheme was open to vehicles of any fuel type, providing they were built to Euro 4 emissions standards and before the end of 2009.
Electric Cars:
FIAT had not yet provided any electric vehicles during its previous scheme, so there were no deals to be had on one, and no electric vehicles would have qualified based on emissions standards.
Commercial Vehicles:
FIAT Professional also ran a scrappage scheme alongside the one for cars, which offered large savings on FIAT’s commercial vehicle range. Once again aimed at cars and vans built before 31st December 2009, customers could save over £10,000 depending on the model of van they were purchasing. For example, savings were up to £5,500 on a Fallback, £8,500 on a Doblo or up to £13,500 on a Ducato.
Do I qualify for a Scrappage Scheme Offer?
Even though there are no official FIAT scrappage schemes any more, you could still be eligible for a scrappage scheme depending on where you call home. There are currently three schemes in place, the eligibility rules and regulations we have briefly explained below:
- London – available to London residents with a vehicle that is not ULEZ compliant
- Birmingham – available to those who work 18 hours a week or more within the Birmingham Clean Air Zone, who earn £30,000 a year or less and have owned a non-compliant vehicle since 10 September 2018
- Scotland – Available to owners of non-compliant vehicles who live within a 20km radius of a Scottish Low Emission Zone
