Citroen Scrappage Scheme
Currently there is no official Citroen scrappage scheme active. The previous scrappage scheme ended on 31/12/20 and has not been restarted. Citroen drivers looking to scrap their cars or vans are recommended to compare prices to maximise the payout from scrapping their vehicle.
What is the Citroen scrappage scheme?
The latest Citroen scrappage scheme, known as the ‘Swappage Scheme’, was one of the more recent scrappage schemes in the industry, ending in 2020. The scheme allowed customers to benefit from discounts of up to £5,000 for a brand new Citroen. Before this, and like many other manufacturers, there was a scheme in 2017 to try and boost sales and remove the highest-polluting vehicles from the road.
Is the Citroen scrappage scheme coming back?
There are currently no suggestions that the Citroen scrappage scheme will be returning, and as the latest scheme has only recently ended, it is unlikely that another one will be starting any time soon.
How did the scrappage scheme work?
Citroen’s scrappage scheme was available to anyone who owned a vehicle that was registered prior to the 1st June 2014, and provided they had owned the vehicle for at least 90 days at the point of trading in. As with many manufacturer run schemes, the incentive was that you would then be given a discount on a new car, with that discounted figure depending on the model you were purchasing. For example, you could get £2,500 for a C1, or up to £5,000 for a Grand C4 SpaceTourer.
Petrol Cars:
It was possible to trade in any car of any type, be it petrol or diesel, in this scheme, as it was only age that was the limiting factor on eligibility.
Diesel Cars:
It was possible to trade in any car of any type, be it petrol or diesel, in this scheme, as it was only age that was the limiting factor on eligibility.
Electric Cars:
Citroen’s electric strategy is only just beginning to take off, and at the time of the scheme, the flagship Ami was not yet available.
Commercial Vehicles:
Citroen has long been a big player in commercial vehicles, with many older H Vans still in use as bougie street food vendors today. Citroen’s swappage schemes for vans actually lasted a little longer than for cars, and ran until the end of March 2021 and offered savings of up to £10,000.
Do I qualify for a Scrappage Scheme Offer?
If you missed out on the Citroen scrappage scheme, then you haven’t totally missed the boat on using a scheme just yet. There are currently three location-based clean air zone schemes of which you could be eligible.
- London – available to London residents with a vehicle that is not ULEZ compliant
- Birmingham – available to those who work 18 hours a week or more within the Birmingham CAZ, who earn £30,000 a year or less and have owned a non-compliant vehicle since 10 September 2018
- Scotland – Available to owners of non-compliant vehicles who live within a 20km radius of a Scottish Low Emission Zone
