Where are the zones in place?

York’s Clean Air Zone is currently in place within the inner ring road, and is for buses that regularly operate within the boundary set by the ring road.

Do I need to pay the daily fee?

Only bus operators will be affected by the current CAZ, however, if the plans to remove traffic from York City Centre does come to fruition, the chances of charges for general motorists grows exponentially. As there is no Clean Air Zone in place affecting the majority of drivers in the city, there are no grants in place currently for private or commercial vehicles to replace their older cars with more green options. However, taxi drivers, working within the city centre and licenced by the City of York Council, are able to apply for a grant of up to £3000 to put towards a newer, less polluting, taxi that adheres to Euro 6 emissions regulations. GOV.UK offers a service where you can check if charges apply to your vehicle, although this service is only available for vehicles registered in the UK. Charges will still apply to vehicles registered outside of the UK.
