Breaking down anywhere can be an absolute nightmare, but when your vehicle dies on you in the middle of a road scattered with traffic cones, temporary lights and JCBs, it’s sure to be a little bit more intimidating (and troublesome for traffic flow, too). So how do you deal with this rubbish situation? Let us explain…
If breaking down has become a regular occurrence for your car, sell your vehicle with Scrap Car Comparison and we’ll track down the very best prices offered by professional scrap & salvage buyers in your local area. What Should You Do If Your Car Breaks Down In Motorway Roadworks?
If you break down in roadworks on a motorway, you must call 999. Despite National Highways keeping a close eye on the motorways and the roadworks that are in operation, the police will be able to assist if you’re not in a safe situation.
As usual, you should try to get over to the left hand side but with roadworks about, that’s not always possible. So, if you’re stranded in a live lane, stay in the vehicle with your seatbelt and hazard lights on and await the police’s response.
Should You Stay In Your Car If You’ve Broken Down In Roadworks?
In roadworks, the same rules apply as usual: get out of the vehicle if you can safely get over to the left-hand side of the motorway. However, if you can’t make it to the left side of the motorway because of the roadworks, you should stay in the vehicle, put your hazard lights on, and keep your seatbelt on. Then, call 999 and ask for the police. They’ll come out and sort out the situation, making it safe as soon as possible.
Do You Get Free Recovery If Your Vehicle Breaks Down In Roadworks?
You’ve probably seen the signs on the motorway reading “free recovery await rescue” when passing through roadworks. Is it true, or is there a catch? Well, believe it or not, if you break down in roadworks, you will indeed get free recovery to get your vehicle taken away to relative safety!
