Every year, more than 15,000 people leave the UK’s armed forces to begin new lives as civilians. Around 1,000 of them will face serious challenges due to injuries from service or mental health issues. Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI) has been helping vulnerable Armed Forces veterans from across the UK for over 100 years.
Established in 1919, one year after the end of the First World War, RBLI was founded to support those returning home from the trenches suffering from Tuberculosis .
RBLI provides jobs, safe housing, care, and support for those most in need. In Kent, 340 veterans and their families live at our RBLI Village, one of the last two remaining military villages in the UK. We are working to build more homes, especially for the increasing number of female veterans. Our main goal is to help veterans and their families across the UK improve their health and wellbeing, offering support suited to their needs. Ultimately, we aim to help them live independently in civilian life.
Britain’s Bravest Manufacturing Company (BBMC), located on-site, employs over 100 people, with 70% being veterans or people with disabilities. Many motorway and road signs across the UK are produced in our factory in Kent by veterans who have re- trained as sign makers at BBMC. We also create RBLI’s Tommy collection, which honours veterans. Our factories in England and Scotland produce thousands of signs each week for roads, railways, and companies like Network Rail and National Highways. BBMC provides a supportive space where employees can build skills and confidence for future jobs.
