Scrap Car Comparison will be raising money for the longstanding Armed Forces charity CESSAC for the remainder of February, helping to provide welfare cafes for serving Armed Forces personnel and their families in locations they are needed worldwide.
CESSAC (Church of England Soldiers’, Sailors’ & Airmen’s Clubs) started providing such facilities in 1857 – it has never been religious in operation, the name simply reflects its Anglican origins.
Incorporated in 1891, CESSAC currently operates at RAF Mount Pleasant in the Falklands, 4 British bases in Cyprus (Akrotiri, Dhekelia, Episkopi & Nicosia) and another 4 in England (Aldershot, Blandford, Colchester & Woodbridge). It is hoping to open another in Chicksands soon. The charity also provides sheltered housing for ex-service personnel over the age of 60, either via its sister organisation CESSA Housing Association, or through its management of schemes owned by Greenwich Hospital, a Crown Royal Navy Charity.
